“I started training at Nuffield as a way to increase my fitness as well as reduce my body Fat. I was to be honest sceptical about how much I would achieve given how much effort I knew was required to make progress using traditional exercise machines. I was however lucky to meet Norman Brown at the gym who educated me on the benefits of doing functional training instead of traditional weight training or other exercises.
Using kettlebells and various bodyweight exercises, my overall strength and fitness improved so much that I am able to perform exercises I would never have attempted on my own. My workouts have been tailored to my specific goals and as a result I have lost around 10kg in body fat as well as reduced my resting heart rate by 25%. I have learnt so much from Norman as he is willing to share his expert knowledge and answer any questions you come up with whether than be in a formal training session or just ad hoc while i’m in the gym. I can’t recommend Norman enough!”
I have always been big as are the majority of my family. Most of my family have diabetes and two years ago we received the news that my brother had died, (age 53) from not looking after his diabetes. My father also died young (age 49) and I didn’t want to end up the same. I wanted to be around to see my nieces and nephews grow up and have their own families.
I knew I had to do something. In October 2013 I did “Stoptober” and gave up cigarettes. I then used some of the money that I would of spent on cigarettes to join Nuffield
Fitness Centre in February. To be honest, I have not looked back since; with the help of all the staff there and the support of my husband, friends and family. I have managed to loose 8st so far. I am still learning new ways of exercising and enjoy it, having a mentor and joining the “slim to win” group and joining in with classes has helped me to learn more about different types of exercise.
My health has improved now and I have more confidence in myself. I am finding that I can do things that I wouldn’t have been able to do before.
